Graveside service for NSB resident Jeannette Baker-Nichols, mother of football star Dallas Baker and author of song recorded by Otis Redding

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A graveside service wiill be held 2 p.m Saturday for Jeannette Baker-Nichols, of Milford Place, mother of NFL player Dallas Baker and the author of a song recorded by Otis Redding, who passed away on April 17, 2009. She was 68.

The service will be held at Glencoe Geiger Cemetery with Suffragan Bishop Robert B. Thomas officiating. Interment will take place at Glencoe-Geiger Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Mrs. Baker-Nichols was born in New Smyrna Beach and was a graduate of the former Chisholm High School. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She loved working in her garden, fishing and helping those in need.

Baker-Nichols authored of the hit single, "You Don't Miss Your Water (Till the Well Runs Dry)," recorded by Otis Redding.

Besides her son, Dallas Baker (Joyace), of Daytona Beach, who played for the Florida Gators and is a wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, she is also survived by another son, Jessie Webb (Michelle), of Oak Hill; three daughters, Deidra Wood (Artice), of Oak Hill, Darlene Baker, of New Smyrna Beach, Elizabeth Bland, of Azores, Portugal; one sister, Dorothy Fuller, of New Smyrna Beach; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Baker and Rosalee Baker; 17 grandchildren, including Charlene, Artice & Ramsey, of whom she raised; 16 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, including Emory Wood.
