Man with knife robs busy NSB McDonald's on S.R. 44

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- In the midst of dinner-time customers, a white man man with a scruffy beard armed with a knife hopped over the counter at the McDonald's restaurant on State Road 44 and grabbed a wad of cash from a register before running outside and taking off in a grey or silver vehicle, New Smyrna Beach police said.

The man initially placed placed an order when he walked in at 7:33 p.m., but when given his total he told the clerk he did not have any money. The clerk alerted the manager who confronted him. That's when the robber "displayed a knife to the manager and demanded money," police Sgt. Christopher Roos said. "He then jumped onto the counter and began to empty the cash register. The male fled out the rear door."

The robber was described as white man between the ages of 30 and 40 with a medium build and of average height with a scruffy beard. He was wearing blue jeans, a blue T-shirt and a “Caterpillar” baseball cap. .
