NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Tonight is your night to be heard and to grill the candidates for city commissioner and mayor on the important issues. It's the third and final candidates debate in advance of Early Voting and it gets under way at 6:30 p.m. The doors open at the Brannon Center at 6 p.m., on Riverside Drive.
The first debate begins at 6:30 p.m. between City Zone 1 City Commissioner Randy Richenberg and challenger Judy Reiker. Querstions will be asked of both during a 15-minute session by NSBNEWS.net. Each question will be up to 15 seconds in length, with each candidate
having 1 minute for a response.
This will be followed by questions from the audience for 20 minutes. with the same format of 15 seconds for the question, and a 1 minute response.
This will be followed by a 15 minute period for each of the candidates to ask each other questions. The format will be 30 seconds for the question, and 1 minute for the reply. This will be followed by a 2-minute closing statement from each candidate.
The Zone 1 debate will end at .7:25 p.m., followed by a 5-minute intermission.
The mayoral debate will begin at 7:30 p.m. between Mayor Sally Mackay and challenger Adam Barringer. Both candidates will be asked questions by NSBNEWS.net in a 30-minute session with each question asked within 15 seconds, followed by a 1-minute response from the candidates.
The audience will then be given 30 minutes to question the candidates with the same time frame as the commissioner session, followed by the candidates asking questions of each other for 15 minutes and closing arguments at 2 minutes each. The second debate is scheduled to end at 8:40p.m.
No candidate tables allowed inside. Candidates and their supporters can hand out literature, but no balloons, signs or banners are allowed.
The debates will be hosted by Robert Tolley of the Public Watch Committee, the sponsor of all three citizen debates, along with NSBNEWS.net, which will have exclusive video coverage.
