EDGEWATER, Fla. -- Tis the season for Jolly old St. Nick to be making his rounds.

It is a time of year when people seem to try harder to be nice to one another except when shopping. Then it is dog eat dog. This year for some reason many of my friends find themselves so busy that they have no time for things like shopping or writing out cards. Christmas has snuck up on them. They are more stressed than usual.

They have been calling to tell me Merry Christmas because they did not manage to get cards out this year. Some of them have me in stitches with their stories of what’s going on.

One friend said she has been using her lunch hours to shop at 7-11. Though no children of her own, she has two nieces and a nephew she always spoils and I can’t imagine how she is doing that at the local convenience store but she has managed. I am generally Bah Humbug this time of year, but I do manage to mail out Christmas cards with notes in them so friends and family know I am still alive and kicking.

My Mom is a huge Christmas fan so being an only child I have no choice but to “do” Christmas. A couple of days after Thanksgiving, I got up to the Christmas tree up and decorated as well as the lamppost outside and with several wreaths hanging from doors and other places. Presents were also already wrapped and under the tree, too. Bear in mind Mom is 91 and did all this herself.

I told her we should get a pre-lit tree, but she said no because she enjoys untangling and stringing the lights on the tree. How that is fun for her escapes me totally. So we are all set for Christmas. I have her presents bought and wrapped and I have dinner ready to put in the oven.

For any of you out there who have procrastinated on gift buying my friend said to tell you even Christmas Eve you can shop at 7-11 and they have something for everyone. I would like to tell my readers and all readers of Headline Surfer that I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and the happiest New Year you’ve ever had. Also, I thank you for your steadfast loyalty to our publisher, Henry Frederick, and his various writers and contributors. We appreciate you all!
