NSB cops: 17-year-old boy shot in the back by pick-up truck driver at intersection of Mary and Myrtle avenues

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A 17-year-old boy was shot in the back at the intersection of Mary and Myrtle avenues, early Sunday morning by a gunman driving a pick-up truck, New Smyrna Beach police said.

The juvenile was conscious when police and paramedics responded to the scene at 12:35 a.m., said police Sgt. Valerie Joyce. She said the wounded teen was transported to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach. His medical condition was not released.

Police received information from witnesses at the scene regarding the shooter and his vehicle. He was described as white, 20 to 25 years of age, with brown and a thin build. He had a tattoo on his neck and was wearing a dark-colored shirt.

The vehicle is described as a newer model Chevy pick-up, either champagne or tan in color.

With the shooter was a passenger, described as white, about 30 years old, with a large build and a bald head. He was wearing a white shirt.

New Smyrna Beach police were assisted by units from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office in searching for the suspects but were unable to locate them or the vehicle.
