NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- "Don't let the tail wag the dog."
That was the message Teamsters agent Jeff Candage brought Tuesday night to the New Smyrna City Commission on behalf of 44 unionized police officers seeking a 2-percent raise, in line with what other municipal employees received for the current fiscal year, which began Oct. 1. That means the pay increases are retroactive to that date.
