NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Despite being repeatedly beaten with a sawed-off shotgun, a Sheldon Street resident refused to give up his money to a would-be robber who attacked him in his yard last night, police said. The 39-year-old victim was struck several times in the arms and legs in the 8:40 p.m. robbery attempt, but refused to give up the money he received after cashing his Social Security check, police Detective Dan Kennedy said this morning. Even as he was being accosted in his yard in the 300 block of Sheldon, which is off Washington, the victim repeatedly said "no" when the cash was demanded from him, Kennedy said. Police responded to a 9-1-1 call but upon arrival, the victim refused medical treatment. His attacker was described as black, 18 to 25 years of age, who stood about 5 feet 5, with a deep voice. He was wearing a light-grey hooded sweatshirt, dark-colored sweat pants and black sneakers. Kennedy said the victim told police he didn't know his attacker and police are sorting out how the attacker knew the victim had cashed a check. BREAKING NEWS ALERTS: NSB Winn-Dixie store pharmacy on S.R. 44 robbed by gunman

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Police are looking for a young white man in a blue-hooded sweatshirt who robbed the Winn-Dixie store pharmacy of Oxycodone pills at 9:45 p.m. Saturday. The man entered the store at 1835 State Road 44, walked over to the pharmacy and handed the pharmacist a note and said he had a gun on him. "The pharmacist gave the suspect two of the items on the list, 15 mg Oxycodone and 30 mg Oxycodone pills," Sgt. Christopher Roos wrote in his report. "The suspect took the pill bottles and his note and left the store. The suspect left the parking lot driving a maroon Nissan Pick-up. The suspect’s whereabouts and identity are still unknown" The robber was also described as being of medium build and in his late teens or early 20s. Besides the hooded-sweatshirt, he was also wearing bluejeans. The Nissan pick-up truck he was driving was likely a late 1980s model.

BREAKING NEWS ALERTS: NSB cops charge 18-year-old in auto break-ins; urge motorists to lock vehicles

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Police issued a public alert this afternoon for motorists to lock their parked vehicles in the wake of the arrest of a suspected car burglar two days earlier. During the early morning hours of Wednesday, William Henry Quick, 18, of 2846 Sunset Drive, New Smyrna Beach, entered multiple unlocked vehicles that were parked in the Inlet Shores Subdivision in New Smyrna Beach, for which was charged with 19 felony counts of breaking into automobiles, police said. A subsequent investigation led to the identity of Quick and police were able to return stolen property to area residents. Burglaries to Conveyances (Car breaks) are often crimes of opportunity. "Police are urging citizens to lock their vehicles and remove any valuables from them," police spokesman Sgt. Mike Brouillette said. "In this incident, Quick entered 19 vehicles, which had been left unsecured."

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Have you seen the woman in this video? She's wanted by New Smyrna Beach police on charges of armed robbery and aggravated battery Sunday at Beall's Outlet, in the NSB Regional Shopping Center, 1914 State Road 44. A loss prevention officer at the store suffered a cut to his hand in a scuffle with the woman and a male accomplice, police said. She was described as a black female, dressed in a purple outfit. She's of medium height with a heavy build, about 30 years of age. The loss prevention officer tried to stop the two outside of the store during the 3:41 p.m. incident after observing the female stealing clothing, police said. "While making contact, the black female began to struggle with the LP officer," the police report states. "The black female produced a utility knife during the struggle, cutting the LP officer on the hand. The LP officer disengaged and both suspects fled the area in an older model gold Cadillac, with no tag attached the vehicle." A local Be On the Lookout for the suspects and vehicle. BREAKING NEWS ALERTS: Two teens apprehended by NSB cops in stolen Chevy Tahoe

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Two 18-year-old men were apprehended after police received reports of a reckless driver in the area of the Sugar Mill subdivision just after midnight. An officer observed the vehicle, a red Chevy Tahoe, at the intersection of Sugar Mill Drive and Gibraltar Boulevard, traveling at 70 m.p.h, police Sgt. Valerie Joyce reported. In her summary report, Joyce wrote: The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle accelerated and began to disregard stop signs and other traffic laws. The officer then deactivated his emergency lights and followed the vehicle, advising via radio, the vehicle’s direction of travel and traffic violations. The Tahoe struck a fence at the Babe James Youth Center on North Myrtle Avenue and drove through a wooded area where the officer lost sight of it. Moments later another officer advised the vehicle was abandoned in the roadway at the intersection of Julia Street and North  Myrtle Avenue. He observed shadowy figures between Julia Street and West Canal in the 700 block He also advised that this was the same vehicle that had been reported stolen on Friday. A perimeter of the area was set-up by New Smyrna Beach police officers and Volusia County Sheriff's deputies, awaiting the arrival of NSB police K-9 Units. K-9 Officer Diffin arrived on scene and began a track with his partner, Vigo. The dog led Diffin to Lincoln Woods and Wyatt Wright, who were hiding in a shed. Both 18-year-olds were taken into custody. K-9 Vigo and K-9 Buddy led Diffin and Holcomb to nearby areas where "several items of evidentiary value" were recovered. Woods and Wright were both charged with auto theft and loitering and prowling. Woods was also charged with reckless driving and other traffic infractions. Both were transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail.

BREAKING NEWS ALERT: Two 18-year-old girls carjacked at NSB Regional Shopping Center; cops looking for stolen Explorer

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Two 18-year-old girls were victims of an 8:04 p.m. carjacking at the Regional Shopping Center, 1996 State Road 44, New Smyrna Beach police reported. Police are searching for the stolen vehicle, described as a royal blue Ford Explorer Sport-Trac, bearing Florida Tag JE632. Jessica Eibach and Britt A. Cameron, both 18, were the victims of the carjacking. They were returning to their vehicle after shopping when two unknown black males followed them to their vehicle, said New Smyrna Beach police Sgt. Christopher Roos. The two men demanded a ride from Eibach and when she refused to comply with the demand, one of the males threatened to shoot her, Roos said, adding the same man began to beat on Eibach, took her keys and stole her vehicle. The second man threatened to shoot Cameron and forcibly stole her purse before the men took off in the stolen vehicle. The stolen Explorer is registered to Eibach’s mother, Allison K. Eibach 49.
