Time to tune out national cable media outlets & news websites ramping up coronavirus fears in us

EDGEWATER, Fla. -- Let me be clear first that I do see that the Coronavirus is a real threat to our health and we must heed the warnings of the scientists and medical experts.

That we must be cautious about it and that it must be dealt with.

However, it is my belief that some in the national media are creating a circus of fear around the whole thing and we need to start tuning them out. The same goes for posts on social media sites.

Yes, we need to be informed of the news related to the coronavirus pandemic, but do we really need need daily death tolls repeated over and over in the same 24-hour news cycle and to see thousands rushing to get masks that we have been told will do nothing to prevent our catching the virus?

A couple of weeks ago, Vice President Mike Pence was in Florida speaking about the virus. Later in a press conference with Gov. Ron DeSantis, a reporter actually asked if the vice president had been exposed while here during a campaign event because we had just then had our first reported case.

This is just what these media types do. They raise doubts in people’s minds and stir the fear with such dumb questions.

Gov. DeSantis looked at the reporter with a look that spoke volumes as he denied that our Vice President was exposed to anything. You could tell he thought that was a ridiculous question, but he had to keep a straight face and answer the question.

By all means, Please do take precautions for yourself and family but do not go off the deep end with fear.

We have survived many such outbreaks that struck terror in our hearts in the past, but they eventually passed. We learned from them and moved forward.

We need to keep our heads and not let certain media outlets hype the news knowing all too well that it causes us undo distress.

We need to not give them that power over us any longer by changing the channel or not going to their websites. When they see that we have turned them out, then maybe they will stop ramping issues up to a fervor regarding this coronavirus pandemic. We can only hope.
