Traffic on stretch of North Dixie Freeway in NSB re-routed due to crash (updated)

NSBNEWS.net photo by Henry Frederick. This Mustang collided with a Buick LeSabre on North Dixie Freeway at Eleanor Avenue at 10:30 tonight. No one was seriously injured, but southbound Dixie Freeway traffic had to be re-routed by police west onto Eleanor Avenue while firefighters tended to the occupants of both vehicles.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The unmistakable thud of two motor vehicles smashing into each other nearly head on could be heard two blocks from the intersection of North Dixie Freeway at Eleanor Avenue at 10:30 tonight.

No one was seroiusly injured in the crash, but traffic heading south on North Dixie was re-routed by police onto the westside of Eleanor Avenue while firefighters tended to the occupants of both vehicles.

A tan Buick LeSabre was going west on Eleanor while crossing Norh Dixie, and directly into the path of a southbound Mustang on Dixie Freeway.
Donald Debrez, 72, of New Smyrna Beach, was issued a citation charging him with failing to yield the right of way. The driver of the Mustang, a 28-year-old New Smyrna Beach woman, was treated at the scene by firefighters. who also provided her with a blanket while she waited for the accident scene to be processed.
Police estimated damage to both vehicles at $7,000.
