John McCain has chosen a comparative unknown on the national scene as his running mate in Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Governor Palin has many commendable personal attributes but lacks experience in overall national governance and foreign affairs.
It is a great possibility that she was chosen primarily to attract the women voters that Hillary Clinton controlled who are disgruntled and determined to have a woman candidate on the national scene. Although Sarah Palin is an attractive candidate and and an excellent campaigner, she is viewed by many as not qualified to take over as president.
Barack Obama has chosen a seasoned political veteran in Delaware Sen. Joe Biden with considerable foreign policy experience as his vice president for the democratic party. This a wise choice in view of Obama's own lack of experience in that area coupled with the fact that Biden definitely has the overall qualifications to serve as president, if required.
Despite Obama's campaign theme of change, Senator Biden can hardly be seen as impervious to the influences of "old boy" Washington insider politics.
Sarah Palin's lack of experience is a very serious consideration in light of McCain's age and physical condition. To allay some of this reservations, I would encourage McCain to announce his intentions for selection of his cabinet members to support his administration. There are a number of very qualified supporters who would provide the expertise he needs and to instill confidence in his administration if elected as president.
Needless to say, the campaign for president by both major parties will be unique, interesting, compelling and exciting.
It may well boil down to the candidate who gets the majority of women voters who will turn out to win the election.
