NSB man charged with uttering forged checks

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- 43-year-old New Smyrna Beacvh man was arrested Wednesday on charges of stealing several checks from a beachside business and trying to cash them at Amscot and the Sun Trust Bank in New Smyrna Beach, Sjheriff's deputies said.

Phillip Matthew Flint was in the process of cashing the uttered items at Amscott when the victim was contacted by Amscot representatives
due to the sequential nature of her business checks, deputies said.

During this time frame, the suspect's identification was in the possession of the Amscot attendant while he waited at the service counter. Upon detecting that he was being exposed for the fraud, the suspect fled from the Amscot Business and returned home only to be later contacted by deputies.

When confronted with the evidence, the Flint admitted to the theft of the checks, along with passing the stolen items at the respective
business, and was subsequently charged with passing or uttering a counterfeit note, dealing in stolen property and petty theft, deputies said.

Flint was being held on $10,500 bail at the Volusia County Branch Jail.
