Daytona International Speedway tax break legislation a win-win for all of us

DAYTONA BEACH -- The Daytona 500 is just one race. I will say that growing up in DeLand, I was not that interested in the races. I only went to one race and it was not one of the big ones and I had no clue who the drivers were and I still do not know. But I do know how important Daytona International Speedway and the Daytona 500, the Coke Zero 400 and the other races are to the economy of Daytona Beach, Volusia County, Central Florida and Florida as a whole.

Every available space in the parking lot above the beach is taken -- sometimes for an entire day.

1,000 Facebook likes for first 100 days in office

Editor's Note: Here is the weekly message from Congressman Ron DeSantis...

Congressman Ron DeSantisWASHINGTON, D.C. -- Dear Friend – Last week, you helped me reach over 1,000 Facebook likes, which was a wonderful way to celebrate my first 100 days in Congress! Thank you to everyone who has connected with on Facebook and on Twitter at @RepDeSantis - hearing from you is the most important part of my job.

It is a privilege and an honor to represent Florida's sixth district in Congress! When I announced last week that I had co-sponsored legislation mandating that the new drone medal not be given a higher precedence than the Purple Heart, I also stated that it was my hope that Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel would simply handle it himself at the Department of Defense level.

I am pleased to report that Secretary Hagel has discontinued the drone medal entirely.

Having spent their childhoods in Kyrghistan and the United States, it is not clear if either had ever even been to Chechnya. Yet they proved themselves as gratuitously violent as any of their kinsmen.
