Koleszar continues fight against Anglers Yacht Club lease

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Not content that the City Commission earlier this month voted to spend $7,500 for an updated appraisal on prime riverfront acreage the Angler's Yacht Club has under a longstanding lease with the city, Bouchelle Island resident Bill Koleszar stood alone Tuesday, again challenging the validity of the agreement and asking the city to go to court to take back the property.

Mayor Adam Barringer honored at S.E. Volusia County Golden Eagle dinner

Mayor Adam Barringer was the guest of honor at the 2010 Boy Scouts of America Southeast Volusia Golden Eagle Dinner on Saturday night at the Atlantic Center for the Arts. Among the Boy Scouts were 13-year-old Symian Wesley, 11-year-old James Goines and 10-year-old Xavier Boyd, all at front of the nine-member Troop and Pack 487 Allen Chapel AME Church, along with scout masters Richard Boulton and Arthur Williams. Pictured nearest in the photo is New Smyrna Beach City Commissioner Judy Reiker and her husband, Guy Mariande, an Eagle Scout. The woman in the middle of the photo is  Mary Barringer, an assistant principal at New Smyrna Beach High School and Mayor Barringer's mother who was there with her husband and the mayor's father, Ron Barringer, obscured in the photo, and Shannon Sumner, partially obscured, who is Mayor Barringer's fiancee.

Kosmas to host 'tele-town hall' on the health-care legislation she helped secure

(Washington, DC) - Fresh off her vote in favor of President Obama's nationalized health-care plan, first-term Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas, D-New Smyrna (FL-24), will hold a telephone town hall from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday  to discuss the issue.

NSB's park advisory board to consider renaming a North Beach park in honor of the late Grayce Barck

Courtesy photo. The New Smyrna Beach City Commission has asked its Parks and Recreation Advisory Park to consider naming a park in the North Beach "Grayce Barck Park" in honor of the late activist who died March 1 at the age of 82.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- City Commissioner Lynne Plaskett was the last visitor to see 82-year-old Grayce Barck before she died March 1 at the Southeast Volusia Care Center of Hospice of Volusia/Flagler.
