Plans to close nearly 4,300 square miles of the Atlantic Ocean off the coasts of Florida and Georgia to bottom fishing may not come to be if a federal fishing panel gets its way.
DAYTONA BEACH -- Volusia County’s Beach Policy Advisory Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at the Volusia County Lifeguard Headquarters and Administration Center, 515 S. Atlantic Ave.
A staff member from the county’s Coastal Division will give a presentation about beach tolls. The public is invited, and time will be available for public participation.
DAYTONA BEACH -- Sports cars from the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge will test on the new racing surface of Daytona International Speedway beginning Friday and running through the weekend in advance of the Rolex 24 At Daytona the weekend of Jan. 27-30.

SEVILLE -- Crews from Volusia County Water Resources and Utilities will shut off the water for all 63 homes in the New Hope Villas subdivision in Seville for about four hours beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, so they can replace a section of pipe on the subdivision’s water storage tank.
DELTONA -- The Deltona motorist killed just after New Year's Day in nearby Sanford has been identied by the Florida Highway Patrol as 53-year-old Owen Hurd.
DAYTONA BEACH -- Daytona International Speedway has hired Ryan Tolley as director of sales effective Feb. 7. Andrew Booth has been promoted to senior manager of media relations and Joann Mantovani has been promoted to senior manager of advertising and promotions.
TALLAHASSEE -- New Smyrna Beach Mayor Adam Barringer and State Rep. Dorothy Hukill, R-Port Orange, were among several local dignitaries at Tuesday's inauguration of Republican Rick Scott.
