NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Two men were bitten within 10 minutes of each other Saturday morning near the South Jetty, becoming the third and fourth bite victims of the year, the Volusia County Beach Patrol said.

The first victim, a 55-year-old Sanford man, sustained a small bite on his right hand about 9:20 a.m., and was briefly treated at Bert Fish Medical Center and released.

The second surfer, a 49-year-old Southeast Volusia resident, had a more serious bite to his foot that required surgery at Bert Fish Medical Center later in the day. He was expected to make a full recovery.

William P. Everson, 71, of Edgewater, a former offset press operator in the printing industry, died Friday, May 8, 2009.

Barry "Tig" Denk, 37, of Edgewater, the owner of an underground utilities company, died on or about Thursday, May 7, 2009.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The Council on Aging is offering the chance for someone to win a five-day cruise for two to the Bahamas and Key West.

EDGEWATER -- Four people received minor injuries when a car rear-ended a stopped bus picking up a passenger in the northbound lane of the 100 block of North Ridgewood Avenue just after 7:30 a.m. Monday, Edgewater Fire-Rescue officials said.
