PONCE INLET, Fla. – A rare Kemp’s ridley sea turtle is recovering at the Marine Science Center after being accidentally hooked by a man fishing in Ponce Inlet eight days ago.

PONCE INLET, Fla. -- Due to rough surf and weather conditions, the release back into the Atlantic waters won't come until Thursday for a 6-pound green sea turtle rehabbing at the Marine Science Center from a partially amputated flipper.

The release of the turtle, named "Francis" was to be today, but because of the rough surf, the turtle's release has been tentatively rescheduled to 3 p.m. Thursday. Staff expects to release him at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Beach Street ramp in Ponce Inlet.

ORLANDO -- Before he was nominated by President Obama and his appointed ratified by the U.S. Senate in 2011 for a federal judgeship in the Middle District of Florida, Roy B. PONCE INLET -- The Volusia County Public works Department will hold a public meeting 5:30 tonight at Ponce Inlet Town Hall, 4300 S. Atlantic Ave., to present proposed construction plans for the missing link of the sidewalk along the west side of South Atlantic Avenue between Major Street and Marcell Avenue here in Ponce Inlet.

PONCE INLET -- The municipality has instituted a rapid emergency notification service called CodeRED, which distributes emergency messages via telephone to targeted areas or the entire town at a rate of 1,000 calls per minute, according to a press release on Ponce Inlet's website.

PORT ORANGE -- Challenger Nancy Epps and incumbent dist. 2 Volusia County Council member Joshua Wagner have each committed to participating in a public debate sponsored by Headline Surfer leading up to the Nov. 6 general elections.

Epps, who finished second to Wagner in the Aug. 14 primary in a three-way contest to force the run-off said she's looking forward to debating the issues.
