DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- In the non-partisan campaign for zone 2 Daytona Beach city commissioner, Headline Surfer endorses criminal defense attorney Aaron Delgado over Karen "Weegie" Kuendig, who is chairwoman of the city's code enforcement board and Tony Survance, who is with the organization, Save Our Neighborhoods, which assists young people in getting an education.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- When the purple flags are being flown along the World's Most Famous Beach, they're not for a Barney the dinosaur birthday party. The flags are a warning to be alert about jellyfish -- those nearly invisible critters that blend in with the soapy surf and sometimes wash up along the shore.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- John Cooper, the first man to serve as president of Indianapolis Motor Speedway and later Daytona International Speedway who died Wednesday in Indianapolis at the age of 83, was remembered by motorsports leaders of today.

No homes from the nearby Sugar Mill gated community were impacted by the fire, but nearby residents can expect to see and smell lingering spoke through the weekend, NSBFD officials said.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- A 5-acre brush fire near the Sugar Mill Country Club gated community was contained Friday by the New Smyrna Beach Fire Department.
 
The fire was found in a wooded area around the 3000 block of Pioneer Trail.
