DAYTONA BEACH - State Rep. Dorothy L. Hukill, R-Port Orange, will speak to a group of first- and second-year political science students Tuesday as part of Keiser University's Law and Government Series.
DELTONA -- One was a well-known school crossing guard supervisor for the Volusia County Sheriff's Office who became the victim of a murder-suicide that orphaned her four children. The other was a popular Deltona Fire Department captain who lost his battle with advanced stage cancer, leaving his widow to care for the young grandchild that the couple was raising.

It stands at the corner of West Canal Street and U.S. 1, a symbol of ugliness that greets the tourists those on Canal Street are so eager to draw, spending tens of thousands of dollars on Christmas tree lights and a 20-foot artificial tree.
But even with all the glitz and glitter of holiday lights, Dunn Lumber stands as a symbol of the city's albatross. It's the white elephant that won't go away. It's the structure of decay.

They are beginning to awaken from their complacency, and are shocked and angry with what they see. A lot of them are taking it to the "streets" so to speak.
What the elected officials are learning is that they no longer will be able to act without providing answers to their constituents and also transparency. Democracy in action is surfacing.
We see it happening here in New Smyrna Beach.
