Koleszar continues fight against Anglers Yacht Club lease

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Not content that the City Commission earlier this month voted to spend $7,500 for an updated appraisal on prime riverfront acreage the Angler's Yacht Club has under a longstanding lease with the city, Bouchelle Island resident Bill Koleszar stood alone Tuesday, again challenging the validity of the agreement and asking the city to go to court to take back the property.

Daytona Beach cops: 17-year-old girl killed after losing control of car and snapping concrete pole

DAYTONA BEACH -- A 17-year-old girl was speeding when she lost control of her 1997 Chevy at 12:47 a.m. Wednesday while westbound in the 1600 block of Cedar Highlands, smashing a concrete light pole in half with part of the pole landing on top of the vehicle before it struck a parked car in a yard, police said.

DELAND — For the first time ever, a woman is president of Stetson University with Saturday's ireception welcoming Wendy B. Libby, with 1,000 people on hand to welcome her at the Edmund's Center.

TALLAHASSEE  - The Restraint and Seclusion bill sponsored by State Rep. Dorothy L. Hukill, R-Port Orange, passed the Pre K-12 Policy Committee of the Florida House of Representatives, by unanimous vote on Thursday.

This bill establishes standards and procedures for the use, monitoring and reduction of unnecessary restraint and seclusion on students with disabilities and is the first of its kind in the State of Florida.

Death threats to Kosmas in wake of health-care vote forwarded to Capitol police

WASHINGTON D.C. -- Some people upset with Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas' vote in support of President Obama's health-care bill have threatened her and her family, her press spokesman confirmed Thursday night.

The threats, sent in anonymous e-mails and in hang-up calls and messages since her vote Sunday were forwarded to the Capitol police, spokesman Marc Goldberg said.

Threats against congresswoman despicable

Death threats against Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas in the wake of her vote that helped secure passage of President Obama's health-care legislation are cowardly acts that if traced to the perpetrators should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Regardless of one's political views, this type of response is despicable.

Kosmas is right to report such threats to the Capitol police because they are criminal. Some people become so extremist that they lose sight of reality and when that happens, threats become magnified and thern something really dangerous can happen.

A rational approach to health-care reform

A majority of Americans are very apprehensive about Obama’s new health bill. This is exemplified by pink lady Mary Cole at Fish Medical Center who said, ”I hope Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum can have it declared unconstitutional.”

Virtually, all Americans are unhappy because health care costs a lot more than it should. However, the solution is not to destroy our existing excellent health care system with a government takeover; the solution is to fix the problems that are driving the cost up and up.
