Mass of Christian Burial for Yolanda Gerbec Dacar, age 95, of Fairview, Alabama, a former long time resident of New Smyrna Beach, who died Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Hanceville Nursing Home in Alabama, will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach, with burial following in Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery. Calling hours will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Settle-Wilder's New Smyrna Beach Chapel.

Nov. 6, 1931 - June 7, 2010

Memorial service for Frank Willard Burgess, age 78, of Edgewater, who died Monday, June 7, 2010 at Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna Beach will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 12 at Friendship Community Church, Edgewater, with Pastor Tim McCardle, officiating. Burial will be in Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidsonville, Maryland.

April 8, 1937 - June 8, 2010

Memorial service for Barbara Ann Mitchell, age 73, of Hacienda Del Rio in Edgewater, who died Tuesday at home, will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 12 at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home, New Smyrna Beach, with Pastor Kyle McQuillen, Edgewater Alliance Church, officiating.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, to Harold and Mary Coughlin Drew, Mrs. Mitchell, a homemaker, moved to this area 25 years ago from Westford, Massachusetts. She enjoyed fishing and camping, but her special joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

NSBNEWS.net obtained copies of the 9-1-1 calls made in the aftermath of the Memorial Day boat crash near Disappearing Island that resulted in three deaths. NSBNEWS.net decided to wait until a week after the funerals to post the calls out of respect for the victims' families. We are facing an unprecedented incident. I have visited with business owners in Pensacola, Destin, Panama City and St. Petersburg. They are hurting. The oil spill has affected the livelihoods of families and businesses along our coasts, as well as other areas of the state.

WASHINGTON, DC -  Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas, D-New Smyrna Beach (FL-24) has voted to allow the Coast Guard to obtain advances from the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund to underwrite federal response activities to the BP/Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill.

Offcials point to safety education and aggresive enforcement in the lowering number of Florida highway fatalities as shown in the information graphic at left. A report released Monday shows an annual decrease in interstate deaths over the past four years.

 TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and the Florida Department of Transportation have joined together to announce that more lives than ever are being saved on Florida’s roadways. Based on an analysis of vehicle miles traveled in 2009, Florida’s fatality rate dropped to 1.3 fatalities per 100 million miles traveled, the lowest rate ever reported in the Sunshine State, officials noted today.
