Where is the Observer newspaper located and how is it that Steve Dennis is still with the CRA?

There is a lot to report that reeks, absolutely reeks, and it has direct impact on you, the taxpayer. For example, Steve Dennis, vice chairman of the New Smyrna Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, has exercised a loophole to stay on the board, something he has now done two years in a row. And his good friends, Michelle and Bob Lott, are benefactors of the CRA through the Observer newspaper, which is no longer on Flagler Avenue. In fact, the Observer doesn't have a home, at least not one that is legal.

OAK HILL -- Like a perp being led to jail in front of TV camera crews, City Clerk/Administrator Laura Goodearly used a sheet of paper to try and hide her face from NSBNews.net's video camera during discussion tonight over her request for a pay raise that was tabled by the City Commission after learning she has a DUI conviction.

TALLAHASSEE -- Gov. Scott released a statement Tuesday on pending legislation dealing with pharmaceutical drugs.

"I applaud Speaker Cannon, Representative Schenck and the Judiciary and Health and Human Services Committees for putting forward legislation that combats prescription drug abuse and criminal pill mills. I am also grateful to the House Appropriations Committee for unanimously passing this bill.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH — Kimberly L. Clayton, MD, has been named “Physician of the Year” by Bert Fish Medical Center, a spokeswoman for the hospital announced today.

"Dr. Clayton, a general surgeon, was recognized at a March 30 celebration of Doctors’ Day at the hospital on by hospital CEO Ed Noseworthy in recognition of her dedication to quality health care and for her caring, compassionate treatment of her patients," Bert Fish spokeswoman Cheryl Kennison said.

Celebrating 3 years as New Smyrna Beach's daily online newspaper & Volusia voice

On April 7, 2008, Peter Mallory and I launched Florida's first fully-online daily newspaper, NSBNews.net, right here in New Smyrna Beach. We have come a long way in three short years and we have a long way to go, but we are very proud of our standing in the community. We will celebrate our milestone later in the month.

We have experienced tremendous growth. In January 2009, we had 2,000 visitors. In January 2010, that figure rose to 20,000 visitors. This past January we attracted 60,000 visitors, according to our Google Analytics.

Not only is Dennis off the board, but the public no longer has direct access to the Observer, which no longer has a legal physical location.

Obama's focus on the rich is sending all of us to the poor house

Oh, come on. Does Prsident Obama have a paper bag over his head? America is headed toward financial disaster and Mr. O. thinks we should raise taxes on the “rich” and cut spending by some miniscule amount. This isn’t a solution; it’s a prescription for disaster. Congress needs to pass Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) plan to reduce our debt by trillions and put us on the path to a balanced budget. Our taxes are more than adequate to run the government once it is right-sized. It’s Congress that has “deficit attention disorder.”

HOLLY HILL – One young man was killed and three others critically wounded in a drive-by shooting involving a black SUV earlier this afternoon in front of the Pilot Lodge on Ridgewood Avenue, Holly Hill police said.
