New Smyrna Beach man dies in house fire; four dogs, too
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A man and four dogs were killed this morning in a fully-engulfed fire of his single-family mobile home outside the New Smyrna Beach city limits.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is conducting a death investigation. The resident, whose name and age have not been relased while authorities contact relatives, was found inside the mobile home at 2056 Porto Blvd.
An autopsy will be conducted by the Volusia County Medical Examiner's Office to determine the official cause of death.
DAYTONA BEACH -- So Volusia County is interested in seeking out private entities for naming rights to the Ocean Center or any number of parks and trails. Sign me up. I'm prepared to write a check right now for five bucks. Try this on for size: "Headline Surfer Ocean Center."
Carl Labreck, 49, struck and killed by train, is shown here in a 2012 Volusia County branch jail mug shot. He had been arrested dozen of times over past several years on misdemeanor charges like drinking in public.
