NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A man struck and killed by a Florida East Coast train Jan. 17 has been identified by New Smyrna Beach police as James Matthew McIntire, 49.

DEBARY -- Two young men killed when an SUV driven by a third teen rolled over and burst into flames on a dirt road two days ago were identified after an autopsy as 18-year-old Carlos Velazco of DeBary and Hunter Perez of Orange City.

DEBARY -- Several families are in mourning with two dead and three other young people injured early Tuesday when an 18-year-old lost control of his SUV, which rolled over and burst into flames Monday morning on Fort Florida Road in what is likely the most horrific traffic accident of the new year.

The driver of the vehicle, 18-year old Joshua Ritter, was being treated at Halifax Medical Center. Ryan Jenkins, 17, a passenger, was being treated at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City. A second passenger, 18-year old Kenyanna Hawkins, was being treated at Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford. The extent of their injured were not known, authorities said.

DEBARY -- Photographs by Daytona State College instructor Gary Monroe will be displayed this month at DeBary Hall Historic Site

His exhibit, “Change and Loss: Highway 17,” will show how the natural Florida landscape has changed. The photographs are part of DeBary Hall’s Featured Artist Program, which honors a local artist each month.

LAKE HELEN -- An outdoor burn ban issued last month for the cities of Lake Helen, Oak Hill and Pierson, as well as unincorporated areas of Volusia County remains in effect through at least February because of dry conditions.

Deputy Fire Chief Kathy Weaver said the ban is necessary because of severe drought conditions and last month's cold snap that killed vegetation throughout the county.

Round and round it goes and where it stops nobody knows. This sprang to mind when I heard about a federal judge from Florida declaring Obamacare unconstitutional. If I recall correctly President Obama was elected upon his promise to reform health care in this country so everyone had access to it.
