Woman found dead Wednesday in charred remains of house fire near Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH -- Volusia County sheriff's investigators along with county firefighters were on the scene of a house fire just west of Daytona Beach Wednesday afternoon where the body of a woman was found inside the charred home in the Daytona Highridge Estates subdivision.

The fire at 1461 Highridge Ave. was reported at noon, after neighbors spotted smoke coming from the windows of the home.

County firefighters began dousing the flames at 12:12 p.m. and then entered the residence and engaged in an aggressive interior attack of the fire.

"Firefighters found the victim at 12:19 p.m. Paramedics with County Fire Services and EVAC ambulance pronounced the victim dead at 12:23 p.m.," Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said. "The Sheriff's Office's Major Case Unit has been dispatched to the scene to conduct a death investigation."

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal's Office.

There was no other information released about the victim except that she was an adult.
