Future of GOP depends on likes of Marco Rubio and Rand Paul

The future of the Republican Party and the country itself could rest on the very capable shoulders of US Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida or US Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky. Both were popular speakers at the recent Conservative Political Action Conference.

DEBARY -- Over the last couple of weeks we have heard President Obama blaming sequestration cuts; and the big bad Republican Party, for being responsible for everything from school children not being able to tour the White House to the burning down of cities because a fireman must not put on his time sheet to be paid for more than 60 hours in a week.

Also, how can we “terrible and unfeeling Republicans” justify a Federal Worker actually having to take off “one day a month” without pay, for a job that pays almost 35% more than the private sector with almost guaranteed lifelong employment?

Tell me it isn’t so. What have we come to?

But recently, news outlets like ABC and FOX have uncovered many first-hand stories, from the Secret Service to the White House Staff, that all say it was all about politics and all about the president.

We know it is a ploy by the Democrats to make the Republicans look bad about sequestration, and anything else that does not go along with the liberal agenda. The problem is that the crying wolf liberal plan backfired: Of course, most Americans do not believe all the sequestration cuts destroyed the White House nours and that they will cause our cities to burn down and our government to stop working (as if it ever worked in the first place).

We have a little less than four years of these antics to survive.

Now we have to focus on the next presidential election in 2016; and who might be able to beat whoever the  Democrats put up for president.

Recently, someone sent me an email entitled "This is Scary," and when you open it up it, you see was a picture of a bumper sticker on a mini-van saying: "2016 Hilary Clinton/Michelle Obama."

That is scary!

The GOP is already trying to figure out who will be the next contender for the White House. The gathering of Conservative Political Action Conference earlier this month is one of the early indications of the presidential candidates for 2016.

At CPAC there was a presidential straw poll where Rand Paul came in first with 25%, Marco Rubio came in second with 23%, Rick Santorum coming in third with 8%, and Chris Christie with 7%.

I think most agree that Rick Santorum is not the most viable candidates from the recent election and I do not believe Nw Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has the fitness (no physical pun intended) to get the majority of the people to support him. It really comes down to two people: Rand Paul and Marco Rubio. They appeal to the younger voters of CPÀC.

According to NBC News, 52% of the voters at CPAC were between the ages of 18-25. In 2016, we have to put forth a candidate that will appeal to the younger voters and stop constantly acting as if the America is stuck in 1980 – things have changed. There is no need to sacrifice our core principles, but we have to be willing to change how we present our views.

The Republican Party is dying off (age wise) and the only way for our survival is to appeal to people under the age of 40, address their concerns rather than ignore them, and broaden our reach into the Hispanic and African-American communities. Rand Paul and Marco Rubio fit best into these demographics to appeal to the voters the Republicans need to not only have a place at the table, but to stave off from becoming irrelevant.

If we truly have a “big tent,” we'd better start showing it – or we risk the entire future of the Republican Party, and our conservative ideals. Let us start now.
