Two bikers dead so far in unofficial Bike Week count (story updates ID's)

So far, two bikers have died since Bike Week got under way Friday, but the Florida Highway Patrol has not yet determined whether these initial fatalities are related to the 10-day motorcycle rally centered in Volusia County.

David Pitt, 61, of Oviedo, was killed Sunday night while riding westbound on Interstate 4 in Volusia County about three miles west of the International Speedway Boulevard exit, when he suddenly fell off his 2006 Harley-Davidson and was run over by a car behind him, the highway patrol said today.

Troopers did not indicate whether he was wearing a helmet or if would have even mattered. Troopers did say the accident may have resulted from a sudden medical condition.

The driver who was behind, Steve Meyers, 43, of Orlando, was unable to avoid striking the victim, troopers said and will not be charged.

A biker killed Friday night in Flagler County was identified as 58-year-old Melvin Douglas Clay of Palm Coast. The helmet-less Clay was riding north on Belle Terre Parkway, a half-mile south of State Road 100, when he lost control of his bike while rounding a curve and he was thrown about 7:30 p.m. Troopers have not yet determined if alcohol was a factor.
