Do the Citizens of New Smyrna Beach deserve the sacrifices or the blood being shed by our brave men and women in the military day in day out, as they continue to serve all around the world and in two wars, while their families worry and cry on the home-front, in order for every American to have the freedoms that we enjoy each minute of every day? Not from my vantage point on the perch!

We owe so many of our freedoms to these brave and dedicated individuals. Though our busy lives may sometimes cause us to take these blessings for granted, we must never forget our nation's veterans, those devoted warriors who have always guarded the freedom and liberty that we hold so dear.

By JIM HATHAWAYNEW SMYRNA BEACH -- My father served our country in World War II in the 191st Tank Battalion in the U.S. Army. From 1943 through 1946, my father braved the battlefields of Africa, Italy, Germany, and France, even landing on the beach at Salerno during the allied invasion of Europe. His recollection of his service does not fall under some of his most treasured memories, but his service and the sacrifice of his generation allowed for this world to remain free.
By RICK SCOTT TALLAHASSEE -- Since 1918 our country has set aside Nov. 11 to recognize and observe the sacrifices of the members of our Armed Forces who dedicate their lives to preserving the democratic ideals that are the foundation of our country. While it is important to remember the dedication and service of our nation's veterans every day, (today we) pause to say a special word of thanks to honor them.
