Volusia County Council approves Sheriff's law enforcement contract with Oak Hill

OAK HILL The Volusia County Council unanimously approved an agreement Thursday with Oak Hill to contract out the city’s law enforcement services to the Sheriff’s Office. The contract covers a 13-month period, through September of next year.

Edgewater Fire Services will hold a CPR and child drowning prevention class at the Edgewater Rotary facility Sept. 17

EDGEWATER -- The accidental drownings of eight small children so far this year across Volusia County are a vivid reminder of the importance of parental awareness and emergency life-saving training. With that in mind, Edgewater Fire Services, in conjunction with Edgewater Rotary Club, is holding an infant and child CPR class with an emphasis on drowning prevention on Saturday, Sept. 17.

The class begins at 9 a.m. and will go approximately three hours at the Edgewater Rotary facility, 2347 S. Ridgewood in the Pelican Plaza. There is no fee for the class, but size is limited to 30 so please register early by calling 386-424-2445.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A Brevard County man was charged earlier today with armed robbery for an alleged boat jcking on a New Smyrna Beach man on Wednesday, the Volusia County Sheriff's Odffice said.

The victim had told deputies that during a struggle he believed he had cut the would-be robber across the neck with a pocketknife. He also said his attacker had an oriental symbol tattooed across a finger and that the man had earlier told him that he was from Titusville.
