NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- The animal control department at the City of New Smyrna Beach has received a $500 equipment grant from the Florida Animal Control Association for additional equipment to keep the public, officers and animals safe.

SANFORD, Fla. -- Sanford Police were notified just before 8 a.m today that Brandon D. Christian, 8 years old, died at Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando, due to multiple gunshot injuries suffered in Monday's mass shooting that also resulted in the death of his mother, allegedly by her boyfriend, who, armed with an AK-47 assault rifle, turned the home into a veritable bloodbath.
