NSB far outpaces other polling locales on 7th day of Early Voting for primary elections

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Early voting at the New Smyrna Beach library continues to far outpace those going to the polls in Volusia County in advance of the Aug. 24 primary.

Results from Monday's voting from the Volusia County Supervisor of Elections show NSB leading the way with 184 casting ballots, followed by 147 at the Daytona Beach Library, 139 at the Ormond Beach library, 138 at the Deltona library and 92 at the DeLand Dept. of Elections.

Overall, following seven days of Early Voting, New Smyrna Beach leads the way with 1,261, with Deltona second at 1,107, followed by Ormond Beach at 1,079, Daytona Beach at 1,056 and DeLand at 749.

Bio: William (Bill) Benedict born April 25, 1972, in N.S.B. to George and Ruth Benedict. I have
resided in Samsula for 30 years. A 4th generation Volusian, I grew up on the family farm. I attended the
following public schools Samsula Elementary, New Smyrna Beach Jr. High and New Smyrna Beach High
School, graduating in 1990. Furthering my education I attended Daytona Beach Community College part
time while working the family farm and construction until serving in the United States Marine Corps
1994-1998. Continuing my education with the aid of my G.I. Bill, I received an A.A. degree from Daytona
Beach Community College in 1999 and a B.S. from University of Florida in Agricultural Operations and
Management in 2002. I am self-employed, my father and I successfully run a cattle and haying operation
on several land parcels, (approx. 600 acres), located in and around the Samsula area. Agriculture is
kindly instilled in my veins and I have a strong sense of stewardship and nature. I actively serve in the
Samsula community as President of the Samsula SNPJ Lodge 603, and Vice President of the Samsula
Hunt Club. Both organizations host several events yearly to help better our county. As of April 9, 2010, I
am newlywed to Sheryl, my life partner.

Sheriff's Office: Combative Ormond Beach man collapses after being tasered by deputy

ORMOND BEACH -- A combative, 30-year-old Ormond Beach man suffered a medical episode and collapsed Wednesday morning after a Volusia County Sheriff's deputy deployed his Taser to gain control of the man, an agency spokesman said.
