DELAND, Fla. -- When crack cocaine first hit the streets in the mid-1980s, an already-impoverisherd and historically black community by the name of Spring Hill outside the DeLand city limits had become a major drug den for the better part of the next two decades -- its poor and law abiding citizens caught in the cross fire between rival drug dealers.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- The animal control department at the City of New Smyrna Beach has received a $500 equipment grant from the Florida Animal Control Association for additional equipment to keep the public, officers and animals safe.

PALM COAST, Fla. -- The Flagler Beach Rotary Club is looking forward to welcoming spectators, as well as last-minute parade participant applications this week, for its Holiday at the Beach parade, 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3.  As in years past, Santa will parachute onto Flagler Beach at 1pm, hop on a firetruck, and commence the start of the parade.
