DEBARY -- A 12-year-old girl was struck by a car in DeBary Tuesday afternoon moments after stepping off of her school bus, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.
The victim, whose name was not readily available, suffered serious injuries and was flown by a Volusia County Sheriff's Office helicopter to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando.
The crash occurred at 4:10 p.m.
"The girl had just gotten off the
bus at West Highbanks Road and Gracie Road in DeBary," Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said. " Based on preliminary statements, it appears that after the bus had pulled away, the victim was attempting to cross West Highbanks Road when she was struck by a passing car believed to be traveling east on West Highbanks."
The Sheriff's Office is investigating.
