2 New Jersey state troopers rescue tractor-trailer driver before explosion

YouTube download / AP video / Two New Jersey state troopers pulled a trucker to safety just seconds before his burning tractor-trailer exploded.

Two New Jersey state troopers acted quickly in saving an injured trucker's life on I-287 in Bridgewater Township - yanking him from his burning rig just before it exploded.

Trooper Robert Tarleton had just pulled over another vehicle Monday when he saw the truck become engulfed in flames after hitting a guardrail and bridge abutment, accortding to New Jersey State Police in a press release.

“He immediately returned the driver’s credentials and ran back to his troop car to request for fire and emergency medical services personnel to respond to the crash,” state police said.

Tarleton quickly sped off to the crash scene where State Police Lt. Edward Ryer, who was headed home from work, was already trying to rescue the driver. Body camera video footage showed the troopers worked together to drag the trucker from his cab seconds before it exploded.

The driver, whose name was not released suffered minor injuries. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
