NSBNEWS.net photos by Henry Frederick. Maria Giordano, 42, is all smiles as she serves a beer to a Biketoberfest customer inside the packed Pub 44 on State Road 44 in New Smyrna Beach on Friday night. There were plenty of bikes outside, but few as cool as this custom-made Harley-Davidson chopper inside the establishment. In the other photos, revelers pack the dining area while many others catch a live bands out back. Day 2 of the four-dat Biketoberfest, which ends Sunday, was much more livelier than opening night here and bikers reported larger crowds in Daytona Beach as well. There have been no biker-related fatalities midway through the fall biker rally that traditionally draws 50,000 bikers, though with the recession, that potential turnout is not expected to materialize.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EDITOR'S NOTE: The third and final "Citizens Candidate Debate" for mayor and Zone 1 commissioner will be held 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at the Brannon Center, 105 S. Riverside Drive, sponsored by the Public Watch Committee, with exclusive video coverage by NSBNEWS.net. This is your last chance to hear from the candidates in one setting before the start of Early Voting.
What we're working on:
# Mayor Sally Mackay discusses relocation of administrative staff from the North Causeway to City Hall in our "Meet the Mayor" video segment.
# Mayoral candidate Adam Barringer pledges to develop a comprehensive economic development plan for the city in first 100 days, if elected. We'll have a video and a story package.
# Mayor's race takes a nasty turn with "anonymous" supporter for Mayor Sally Mackay bashing her opponent, Adam Barringer, in a series of e-mail postings. We'll have reaction from both camps.
# Former Zone 1 City Commissioner candidate Frank Dalton will announce his endorsement in the race between the final two candidates: Will he back candidate Judy Reiker, who nearly won the primary outright or will he go with first-term incumbent Randy Richenberg.
# Could this be NSB's Watergate? The City Commission voted to cut $14,000 from the budget for water and coffee for its 240-plus employees in the new fiscal year that began Oct. 1, yet the elected officials have sparkling cold bottled water for themselves. We'll have a report in our "Making the Grade" segment.
# We are continuing to develop our In-Depth Report: "Show Me The Money," in which we break down the salaries of the city's 247 employees. Some salaries have doubled and even tripled in just seven years.
# We'll have continuing coverage of Biketoberfest 2009 from NSB's epicenter: Pub 44.
# Check out new blogs from Capt. Budd Neviaser's "Outdoorsman" and Pat Miller's "Wolf Tails."
# NSB Police Cmdr. William Drossman recalls the dedicated service of a K-9 unit killed in a traffic accident in our Cover Story.
# Check out our revised rotating headline reports in U.S./World news, Hollywood Gossip and Sports Wire.
LOWEST AD RATES
# Advertising is welcomed and appreciated to keep greater New Smyrna Beach's only daily on-line newspaper going. We recognize that with the recession, advertising dollars are limited, which is why we have the lowest rates of all media outlets serving this community and a powerful following in the community as demonstrated by the "hits" in excess of 1,200 daily on NSBNEWS.net, your around the clock Internet source "where journalism lives."
