The bright lights from the Florida East Coast Railraod train, shown in these two photos, shows through the darkness of night as it sits idled on the tracks on Indian River Boulevard early Monday after striking and killing a pedestrian on the tracks.
EDGEWATER -- A 34-year-old city man was killed early Monday after he was struck by a Florida East Coast Railroad freight train on the tracks in the vicinity of State Road 442, also known as Indian River Boulevard, Edgewater police said.
The victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the 12:37 accident, was identified as Robert Austin Skinner, date of birth of Sept. 20, 1975.
Here is a synopsis of what happened as reported by Edgewater police: It was immediately found that an unknown white male was deceased next to the stopped train. The scene was transferred to Florida East Coast Railroad Police. Officers on scene were initially unable to identify the remains of the white male. The male was later identified by his fingerprints at the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The police report added: "The reason Mr. Skinner was on the tracks is still under investigation, but he had documented history of emotional issues."
