NSB's Elections

My name is Sharon Luebbers and I am emailing you to ask you for your consideration and vote to become your full-time representative on the Volusia County School Board for District 3.

This is a nonpartisan race and all registered voters in District 3 can participate. Early Voting began Monday, Aug. 9th and continues through Aug. 21 at the New Smyrna Beach Regional Library (Mon-Sat, 8 am-4pm) and at other sites around the County. Precinct voting is on Election Day, Tuesday August 24t

I will listen to you and fight: for quality education for your children to keep our small, local schools open as Public Schools to make cost-saving cutbacks that do not undermine the effectiveness and safety of our schools. I am an artist and Art Teacher. I have lived in New Smyrna Beach since 1991.

I have taught after school art classes with elementary and middle school students at the Boys and Girls Clubs throughout the county through ArtLink, a partnership between ArtHaus of Port Orange and the Boys and Girls Clubs. I have also taught as a substitute for several years at many of the elementary and high schools in District 3.

Last year I taught Art K-5 at Deltona Lakes Elementary to over 800 students in 42 different classes. I am focusing my campaign walking door-to-door raising votes. From Port Orange to Osteen, Oak Hill to Samsula, New Smyrna Beach to Edgewater, I have met many concerned and knowledgeable people from all parties and all walks of life. Many are current or former teachers or have teachers in their families. Others have children or grandchildren in the schools and many more are just concerned about educating our next generation of neighbors and citizens.

Most all are receptive >to my campaign call for: quality education with a comprehensive curriculum ---NO SUBJECT LEFT BEHIND---including Art, Music, Drama and Physical Education, excellent experienced teachers fairly evaluated on their own merits, and codes of conduct enforced with back-up from administrators to the teachers and from the Board to the administrators.

The voters I am meeting in our district genuinely want the best possible for our students.

For more information on the issues, see the Voter Forum Questionnaire online from the League of Women Voters of Volusia County http://www.lwvvc.org/elections2010/SchoolBd-Luebbers.html

Thank you for your consideration and your vote!

Sincerely, Sharon Luebbers for School Board, District 3
