Daytona Beach police's 'Kicks for Guns' program will be discussed at press conference this morning

DAYTONA BEACH -- At 11 this morning city officials will hold a press conference to promote a gun exchange program.

It will be held at the John H. Dickerson Center, 308 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd. Mayor Glenn
Ritchey, City Commissioner Cassandra Reynolds, and Police Chief Michael Chitwood will talk about
"Kicks for Guns" exchange program.

Last year, the Daytona Beach Police Department was the first law enforcement agency in Volusia County to participate in this event, in conjunction with other agencies from the Central Florida area. The local community responded by turning in 340 guns, totaling $17,000 in gift cards, with "no questions asked," police spokesman Jimmie Flyynt said. This year, in lieu of tennis shoes (kicks), the police department will exchange gift cards up to $50, depending on the type and condition of the gun being exchanged.
