Sheriff's Office: Restaurant robbed near Ormond Beach

ORMOND BEACH -- The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery of a fast food restaurant near Ormond Beach early Monday morning, an agency spokesman said.

Two employees were in the store after the lobby had closed when a man armed with a gun entered and demanded cash. There were no shots fired or any injuries. Deputies responded within 30 seconds of receiving the 911 call. Despite a thorough search with a K-9, the robber got away.

The robbery happened at 12:24 a.m. at the Burger King a
1622 N. U.S. Highway 1.," Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught said. " The shift manager told deputies that a man entered the closed lobby and pointed a handgun at him and another employee. While ordering the victims to not look at him or he would blow their heads off, the suspect demanded to know where the store's money was."

The manager directed the gunman to a safe where he then grabbed money from cash drawers and bank bags, before fleeing through fled through a door where the victims believe an accomplice was holding it open for him.

The robber was described as black, in his mid-30s, 5 fet 10 with broad shoulders. He was dressed all in black and had his face covered.
