Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport increases 46% in September over same month in 2009

DAYTONA BEACH -- Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport increased 46 percent in September, compared with September 2009.

Airport officials attributed September’s traffic surge to competitive fares and increased capacity being offered by the airport’s two principal air carriers -- Delta Air Lines and U.S Airways.

"The significant passenger increase in September demonstrates that our community is responding to the many advantages offered by Daytona Beach International Airport,” Airport Director Rick Karl said. “We are very pleased with the continued increase in passenger traffic and are looking forward to a strong year-end finish and continued traffic growth in 2011 as the economy continues to improve.”

During September, 39,269 passengers traveled through Daytona Beach International Airport. This compares with 26,941 travelers recorded in September 2009.

For the past 12 months, 476,288 passengers traveled through the county-operated airport, a 13 percent increase over the same 12-month period during the prior year when 422,851 travelers were recorded.

During September, the number of seats offered by Delta and U.S Airways increased 54 percent with passenger loads at 87 percent of the available seats.
