Video and photos by Multimedia Editor Sera Frederick . Kacey Joiner is the 2010 Homecoming Queen of the 2010 New Smyrna Beach High School 'Cudas. Check out our exclusive video of the highlights from halftime of Friday's game, which NSB won over district foe Viera, 42-19.
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- She got the loudest applause when her name was called in nomination for homecoming queen. He got the loudest applause for king and he wasn't even there.
At far left, Kacey Joiner is all smiles as she is named homecoming queen. Her smile turns t a frown when it is announced that Imran Lufi, the king, could not be there because he had his appendix removed the day before.
Even though they were paired up with different classmates, when it came to the ultimate choices their selections were never in doubt:
With a drum roll from the marching band on the field, Kacey Joiner was named homecoming queen and fellow senior Imran Lufi was named homecoming king.
The senior burst into tears when her named was called a second time and the crown placed on her head as her schoolmates on the field and in the stands screamed at the top of their lungs. Lufi wasn't there because he had an emergency appendicitis the day before. What a bummer. But the crowd cheered as his image on a large cardboard placard was held up, along with his crown to wild applause.
And what a homecoming it turned out to be Friday night at the NSB Sports Complex with the football team's convincingly 42-19 drubbing of district foe Viera to gain a berth in the postseason for a second year in a row.
