NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A registered child sex offender who lives in New Smyrna Beach is being held without bail at the Volusia County Branch jail on a warrant charging him with a series of sex crimes out of Piniellas County and is awiting transfer to that jurisdiction.

Richard Ervin, 55, of 1108 W. Canal St., was arrested Saturday, Oct. 2, on 10 Piniellas County warrants related to child-sex charges. He was convicted of attempted sexual battery in Piniellas 13 years ago.

The warrants include two charges of lewd and lascivious behavior and committing a lewd and lascivious act. The remaining warrants allege he violated probation following the conditions of his 1997 sentence and probation, after 10 years in prison and placed on community supervision three years ago with his Canal Street location.
