SOUTH DAYTONA -- The South Daytona Police Department has been awarded re-accredited status by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation -- the third such time since 2002.

The South Daytona Police Department was initially accredited on February 6, 2002. Its first re-accredidation was in 2005, with this being the third one. Many of the 276 standards that were reviewed by the team of assessors were critical to life, health and safety issues.

Undergoing the voluntary state accreditation process provides an agency with a “quality assurance review” and encourages intense self-scrutiny, resulting in more efficient and effective daily operations.

Becoming accredited by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation is considered a significant accomplishment and this status is held in high esteem by the criminal justice community.

“By choosing to continue to participate in the formal and thorough peer review by the Commission, South Daytona Police Department can document to the citizens of Florida that it adheres to high standards of professionalism and is among the finest in the state,” Hall said.

Chairman Judge Keith Cary, formally presented the Certificate of Re-accreditation to Hall at the Commission meeting in Stuart on Feb. 3.
CFA is based in Orlando and reviews all aspects of an agency’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services to determine compliance with 276 recognized standards of excellence.

As part of the review in front of the commission, Hall touted one of the department’s exemplary programs, which is the close association with the Citizens Alert Council and the Citizens Patrol.

Hall emphasized that Citizens Alert is an organization of individuals and businesses that support the South Daytona Police Department and its community in a cooperative effort to help prevent crime through neighborhood watch, citizen awareness and crime prevention programs.
