EDGEWATER, Fla. -- The Steven Sondheim classic, "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" opens at the Little Theatre of New Smyrna Beach on Friday.

There are 11 performances planned. John Stenko will direct the show and Elizabeth Brahm-Kriger has signed on as his Musical Director. With a cast of 18, the show is based on a book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, and features over 15 of Sondheim's ever popular tunes like "Comedy Tonight," "The House of Marcus Lycus" and "Lovely".

It's a Tony Award winner that tells the story in a light, fast-paced and witty style, and when playing on Broadway was acclaimed as one of the funniest musicals ever. Combining traditional comedy with the infectious energy of classic vaudeville, Forum is a non-stop laugh fest from beginning to end.

The story centers around a crafty slave, Pseudolus, who struggles to win the hand of a beautiful, but slow-witted, courtesan, Philia, for his young master, Hero, in exchange for freedom.

Show dates are February 25, 26, 27, March 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12 and 13. All shows are at 8 p.m. except Sundays, which are 2 p.m. matinees.

Tickets for reserved seating are on sale at the Box Office: Adults are $18, Seniors are $17 and students under 18 are $9. The Box Office is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and two hours prior to each performance. You can reach the Box Office at 386-423-1246.
