EDGEWATER -- The Edgewater Fire Rescue will conduct a live fire training exercise at a property located between North Old County Road and Pearl Street.

Set up for the training will begin at 8 a.m. Two abandoned buildings on the site will be burned beginning at 10:30 a.m. The second structure will begin to be burned at 1 p.m.

Units from Edgewater, New Smyrna Beach, Port Orange, Ponce Inlet and South Daytona will be on site to provide a safe exercise for firefighters and ensure no damage will occur to neighboring properties.

"Weather conditions will be monitored before any burning begins and throughout the day to minimize any smoke impact on neighboring properties." Edgewater Fire Rescue spoesman Capt. Jill Danigel said. "Traffic on North Old County Road will be one way (north) for the duration of the exercise to ensure safe passage for water tankers that will be used to provide water for the drill."

On the day of the burn any questions or concerns of a non-emergency nature can be directed to 386-424-2000.
