South Daytona cops: 4 year-old girl drowns in backyard pool

SOUTH DAYTONA -- A 4-year-old girl drowned in a backyard pool just after 11:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Emergency personnel responded to 2130 Green St., and attempted to revive the child, who had been at the bottom of the pool 5 to 10 minutes, South Daytona police said.

Kimberly Hayward was unresponsive during transport to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach where was pronounced dead on arrival. She is the third small child this year in Volusia County to have drowned in a swimming pool to drown in a swimming pool, and at least the fifth to perish in the last two years.
