DAYTONA BEACH SHORES -- A SWAT team was called in several hours after Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety officers received a call 2 p.m. Saturday of a suicidal man in his residence at 3716 S. Atlantic Ave. The man was later found dead inside his home, police said.

The Volusia County Telecommunications Center received a 911 call after the man's counselor called 9-1-1 to report him as being suicidal.

"A counselor had spoken with the subject earlier this morning via telephone," Daytona Beach Shores police spokesman Sgt. Bill Frank said. "Then shortly after 2 p.m., the counselor received the text from the subject indicating that he was going to kill himself. At that time the counselor immediately activated the 9-1-1 system."

Daytona Beach Shores officers responded to the location and set up a perimeter around the building. After being unable to get a response from inside the person's residence, a SWAT team was called in for assistance.

The SWAT team forced its way into the residence and found the person inside already dead, Frank said.

The victim's name was withheld while police try and contact relatives. The method in which the person killed himself o whether a weapon was used was not released to the media.
