OAK HILL -- A story in the Thursday, May 26 edition of the Daytona Beach News-Journal erroneously reports that Commissioner Linda Hyatt was named vice mayor at Monday's public meeting.

Of course, NSBNews.net was the only media outlet at Monday's Oak Hill City Commission meeting.

Hyatt was actually named vice mayor during a 3 p.m. special meeting the previous Friday when the commission appointed retired Florida Highway Patrol trooper Douglas Gibson to seat No. 2 previously held by Darla Lauer, who abruptly resigned as mayor in April. Mary Lee Cook, who was vice mayor was elevated to mayor last month and Hyatt had been serving as acting vice mayor at the subsequent meetings.

In the same published News-Journal story, the reporter wrote: "During Monday night's regular commission meeting, Gibson was named to oversee the city's troubled police department, a position formerly held by Commissioner Ron Engele."

The position was held by Engele until that very meeting with no explanation given as to why the switch was made in the first place. NSBNews.net reported the unsavory circumstances that led to the switch. NSBNews.net will have a profile story on Gibson this weekend.

Editor's Note: A "clarification" note was added to the online version of the News-Journal story one hour after our posting here and the same noted was in the correction box of the newspaper the following morning.
