NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Led by first-year signal caller Marcus Johnson, the Cudas romped over Pine Ridge in Deltona Friday night, 54-7, to go to 4-0 on the season.

But as the highlights above show, there's nothing like playing before the home crowd at the New Smyrna Beach Stadium, especially when keeping an unbeaten season going is on the line.

The offense was led in the home opener by Johnson.

The junior year QB who was 14 for 18 in  passing for 177 years along with 41 yards of rushing in that game and his steady play is a reason for the Cudas' early success.

The home opener drew a big crowd -- entertained as well by the NSB marching band, the Show Dolls and the cheerleaders.

The cheering crowd is music to the ears of Principal Jim Tager.

"We have great fans and they're showing their Cuda pride tonight," Tager said after the successful home opener.

Fast forward the week to Friday night and the Cudas stretched their unbeaten streak to 4-0 at Deltona's Pine Ridge in a laugher, 54-7. On the road, those fans who drove to Deltona, saw a decisive win for the Cudas with half their points -- 27 -- coming in the second quarter alone. Johnson threw for 224 yards, including four touchdown passes. The game was the district 9-6A opener for both squads.

The Cudas have a bye next week.
