DELAND -- Howard Bailey, a 20-year veteran of Volusia County Fire Services, has been promoted to deputy fire chief.
Bailey started his career with Volusia County Fire Services as a firefighter/emergency medical technician in 1992 and was promoted to division chief in 2004. He has a master's degree in public
administration from the University of Central Florida.
After interviewing 62 candidates for the position, Fire Chief Mark Piland said of Bailey: "He has worked through every rank of this organization, taken on every new assignment with enthusiasm and a can-do attitude, and built relationships with many agencies outside Volusia County Fire Services.
Volusia County Fire Services employs 163 firefighters and provides fire protection and rescue services throughout the unincorporated areas of the county and in the municipalities of Pierson, Oak Hill and Lake Helen.
