Romney strong in first presidential debate

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- So who won the big presidential debate? Shane Porter, who runs the Counseling Center of New Smyrna Beach, believes Mitt Romney rocked the vote with his showing.

"It's my opinion that Romney showed himself as a true leader," Porter said. "I now understand why he is successful. He can't be bullied. That was very interesting to see."

An overwhelming number of people on Facebook who responded to Headline Surfer's question as to who won the debate echoed Porter's sentiments. And they weren't bashful in their assessments, either.

"Obama looked like a deer in headlights -- nothing but the same tired sound bites," said Ed Chaput of Vero Beach.

Volusia County resident Jennifer Elliott, said, "Mitt was clear, prepared and confident. He showed leadership, as a president should. Obama, was stammering and underwhelming."

Rick Kit of Daytona Beach, said, "Romney -- because Obama needs to be just a bad memory on Nov 7th."

Diana Barcomb of Edgewater didn't pull any punches either: "Obama just confirmed that he is a big government, big spending liberal! Romney all the way!"

Not everyone in our informal Facebook query was bashing Obama, even though it was obvious he didn't bring his A-game.

DaShawn B, a music artist from Birmingham, Ala., responded, "Obama because he had what you call the knowledge on what he was speaking not just on his argument but on the whole debate."

Michael Drews of New Smyrna Beach said he was not impressed with Romney, even if he was strong in the debate: "This is the first time I heard any substance out of Mitt. No plan or solution just substance. Still don't care for him or changed my mind or vote."
